Creating A Classroom Blog

There are hundreds of sites that allow teachers to create blogs. District recommendations include:

  • ClassPress — this blog is available through a subscription service and allows student to create their own blogs as a part of a class blog site. Students are not required to have email addresses to use blog. This service has been piloted by the participants of the 6th Grade Language Arts Ed Tech grant. Lesson plans and teaching materials are available.

Other Options:

  • Edublog — similar to ClassPress, although you can use the free site. Advertisements are embedded and email addresses are required for your students to use the student accounts.
  • Blogger is not recommended because of the random links placed on blogs which may lead to inappropriate content. If you choose to use Blogger, you will need to remove the "NextBlog" button on your Blogger blog.

To remove the NextBlog button, you will need to edit the template. When you open the template, look for this tag:

</head>

Just below the tag, you need to paste in the following:

<style type='text/css'>
#navbar-iframe {
display: none;
}
</style>

<style type='text/css'>
#navbar-iframe {
display: none;
}
</style>

If you ever switch templates, you will need to redo this.
